Background Information
The electronics industry generates four point seven percent of Mexico’s total GDP. The electronics companies employ over 600,000 Mexicans. These companies include Korean corporations such as LG and Samsung. However, due to corporatism, under which labor unions act on behalf of the companies, laborers are paid low wages and work in inferior conditions.
We often feel dizzy when we’re dealing with chemicals or welding, but the company doesn’t give us any safety equipment. When we requested them, the Korean manager told us that we don’t have the right to have them.
OUR ACTION
KTNC Watch visited Mexico in 2015 to interview laborers working in subsidiary companies and at the suppliers of Korean multinational corporations. KTNC Watch later published a report based on these interviews. In 2016 KTNC Watch invited a Mexican activist to conduct further inspections together.
